Indian Startup Smartphone With Monthly OS Updates
India-made Creo Mark 1 smartphone promises a new feature every month
Creo, an India-based startup that will soon launch its first smartphone named Mark 1, has promised to add a new feature to the upcoming device every month. The new features will be added via software updates that the company will push over the air.
The move will create a distinction based on software features rather than hardware and thickness, which is how most smartphones are differentiated in the market nowadays.
Creo Mark 1 smartphone reportedly runs on Fuel OS, a customized version of Android that will get productivity-enhancing features on a monthly basis. It will also come preloaded with a Retriever App that can help locate the device if it is stolen.
The parent company, Mango Man Technologies, had launched its flagship product, Teewe which went head-on with the Google Chromecast. The only thing that set it apart was the fact that it was designed specifically for Indian consumers. It has plenty of other features to lure Indians buyers, at a time online television was not very famous.
CREO Mark 1 will be the next offering from the startup to have everything a high-end smartphone has, in similar form factor, focusing on software updates over yearly upgrades to hardware. Mark 1 claims to renew your phone with one new feature added to it every month.
Having received $3 Million in funding last year, the company hopes to manufacture its own devices as well, which would employ its software uniquely integrated with the hardware.
The company’s blog states, “At CREO, we’re committed to #MakeBetter Android. And because we want to leave no stone unturned, we’re building both, the Operating System and the smartphone. With our OS we’ll send you relevant updates that shall keep your phone running just as new as the first time you held it. And not just that, we’ll also ship a big new feature with every update.”
According to a recent study by Cyber Media Research on the ‘State of Mobile Operating System Adoption In India’, which was carried across 158 different smartphone brands among over 1476 device models, 72% of Android Phone buyers did not get the latest Android OS or its features at the time of purchase in 2015. What’s more is that in an end-to-end study of 400 smartphone users across major cities in India, it turns out that only 38% of Android users had updated their Android OS at least once.
Take a look at the leaked(expected) specifications below –
- 4.6-inch QHD(1440x2560p) display
- 1.9Ghz Quad-core Helio X10 processor coupled with 3GB of RAM
- 32GB internal storage with microSD slot
- 21MP rear camera along with 8MP front-facing cameras
With specs like these, there is no question about the product’s performance. What CREO claims is that the experience is going to be near stock Android, however with software features never seen in other smartphones before.
It is high time companies like Samsung, Micromax, Sony, LG and Xiaomi take cognizance of the fact that consumers are not fixated on just hardware, but also software. With Mark 1, CREO intends to attract consumers annoyed with the existing OS skins and bloatware on popular smartphones these days.
The smartphone is not available yet, and there is no concrete launch date yet, but you can sign up here to get the first glance of it at launch. Stay tuned for more updates on creo mark 1 smartphone! like us on twitter facebook
